Famous Quotes

Ever since my sophomore year in high school, I have been a collector of famous quotes. Over the years, I have amassed quite a collection, mostly inspirational, humorous and sports-related quotes. Below is a list of some of my favorite quotes:

Leroy "Satchel" Paige:

  • "Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter."
  • "Money and women. They're two of the strongest things in the world. The things you do for a woman you wouldn't do for anything else. Same with money."
  • "Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching."
  • "You win a few, you lose a few. Some get rained out. But you got to dress for all of them.

Satchel Paige did not have the easiest of lives, yet he seemed to have a wonderful outlook on life and seemed to enjoy life to the fullest. He never let his age get in the way of doing something that he wanted to do.

Yogi Berra:

  • "It ain't over 'til it's over. "
  • " I usually take a two hour nap from one to four."
  • " We made too many wrong mistakes."
  • " You can observe a lot by watching."

Yogi Berra is almost as famous for his quotes as he is for his baseball success. My mom gave me a copy of Berra's book, The Yogi Book - "I really didn't say everything I said" . It's a great little book to read.

Booker T. Washington:

  • "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed. "
  • "Any man's life will be filled with constant and unexpected encouragement if he makes up his mind to do his level best each day."
  • "There are two ways of exerting one's strength; one is pushing down, the other is pulling up."

Booker T. Washington has always amazed me. No matter how difficult or challenging something was, he always seemed to find a positve approach.

Henry David Thoreau

  • "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost. Now put foundations under them."
  • "Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Things do not change, we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts. God will see that you do want society."

The castle quote is my favorite quote. Maybe it is because I'm Pisces and a dreamer, but this quote has always meant a lot to me. Or it could be that I am just jealous that Thoreau was able to spend so much time at Walden Pond. What an amazing experience it must have been for him to spend so much time there.

'I never saw a group people try to screw themselves with such intensity as at the USPS" - Dan Cyr He was serious but it made me laugh.
