Gratitude Journal: Five Things

Many years ago while watching a late night re-run of Oprah, Sarah Ban Breathnach spoke about keeping a Gratitude Journal. Breathnach, the author of Simple Abundance, suggests keeping a simple journal and jotting down five things that you are thankful for each day. The lesson is that no matter how bad of a day that you think you are having, there's always something to be thankful for each day. It does not have to be an elaborate list - just one that makes you take some time to think.

For a long time, I kept a Gratitude Journal. Due to laziness, I got away from writing down my thoughts on a regular basis. ometimes, it is easier to focus on the negative and hard to see the positive. For me, though, when I write down my thoughts, I seem to be much happier. Also, life is too short to focus on the negative.

My Gratitude Journal for April 2, 2007.
  1. My family
  2. Good friends
  3. Taking chances
  4. Baseball
  5. Sunshine
  6. Satchel the Cat (Okay - It's supposed to be a top-five. But how can I not be grateful for Satchel?
