I explained that I base my listening more on shows and hosts than stations. I also like shows that have podcasts so that I can play the show later at a time that is more convenient for me.
Below is a list of the shows I currently listen to on a weekly basis:
- The Rick Emerson Show - This is a local talk show that I've listened to for several years. It is on weekdays from 11 am - 3 pm on 970 am in Portland, OR. The show mostly has a pop culture focus with a heavy emphasis on celebrity news, music and politics. It's entertaining, funny and fast-paced. It makes me laugh out loud every time I listen.
- Don and Mike - This is a nationally syndicated show out of Washington D.C. area. These guys are great.
- WABC Radio - I only like two shows from this station. Mark Simone has an oldies program on Saturday nights from 6 - 10 p.m. EST. Simone plays great songs, has interesting guests and also plays old liners and commercials from the past. The other show is Religion on the Line and airs on Sunday mornings from 7:30 - 10 am EST. It is hosted by a rabbi and a priest, and the show discusses all types of religions. It's informative and very interesting.
- Phil Hendrie - Oh how I miss his daily show! Thankfully, podcasts are still available on his site. I hope he returns to the airwaves soon. Radio is poorer without him!
- Sports Byline - This is Ron Barr's long running national talk show that airs weeknights from 7 -10 pm PST. I only listen occasionally, but I always enjoy Ron's diverse lineup of guests.
- 700 WLW - Based out of Cincinnati, this is the radio home of the Cincinnati Reds. I like to listen to Mike McConnell, Andy Furman and the great Gary Burbank.
- NPR's Science Friday - This is one of my favorite shows. It always has a vast range of topics and I always learn something new when I listen. It is hosted by Ira Flatow.
